Here I have taken a photo of some white flowers. This is a very tall photo so it will need to be cropped. Our goal is a subject that sustains the attention of the viewer as it will be the only thing visible from a background of only black so the saturation must be taken all the way down as well.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are a couple ways of doing this. The first is to edit the photo to your liking and then remove the saturation. It gives a soft muted look.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-contrast-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-f2c5d9dd9581c146e16db28a240c77a6\" id=\"prepare\" style=\"letter-spacing:0px\">Preparing The Image<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first step is to get the flower to look how we want it to before working on the background.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-contrast-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-f7c551ca77b32270ba348052704e42ca\" id=\"phone1\" style=\"letter-spacing:0px\">Phone<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The way I achieved the completely white flower was through some simple adjustments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-container-core-group-is-layout-e66bea23 wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Decrease Saturation:<\/strong> All the way down desaturates the image<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Decrease Light Balance:<\/strong> Taking it down all the way decreases the brightness of the background and increases the brightness of the flower while also making details such as the water drops more evident and crisp.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Increase Contrast:<\/strong> This defines the shadows on the shadow and decreases the brightness of the background again. Take the dark triangle(shadows) and drag it nearly to the center and the white triangle(highlights) inside a fifth of the way inside. Here are the exact numbers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-container-core-group-is-layout-e66bea23 wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Shadows:<\/strong> 102<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Midtones:<\/strong> 0.74<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Highlights:<\/strong> 205<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The photo looks terrible with just levels so next, add a Black &amp; White adjustment layer on top of it. Here, you can adjust the brightness of each of the colors while the image displays as black and white. The phone version has a darker background\u2014it\u2019s nearly completely black\u2014while details such as the leaves towards the bottom left are still visible in the Photoshop version. When it comes to details such as this, go with what you prefer.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-contrast-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-687b2baf50a9bcc4c703a033d950df9f\" id=\"fill\" style=\"letter-spacing:0px\">Fill In The Background<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-contrast-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-3cc4de87a49e21cc7ac99d8f9b8dbc48\" id=\"phone2\" style=\"letter-spacing:0px\">Phone<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Taking the photo into Ibispaint, it\u2019s time to paint the back completely black. Our version is already nearly black so there\u2019s only need for a small amount of painting. I filled in all areas that were not completely black as well as the small white flower to the right middle of image.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then, I switched to an airbrush and slightly painted black over the really white petals. This was mainly on the left most flower. Other small details I added was lightly painting black in the centers of the flowers and I cropped the image.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-contrast-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-6a3d5af6477a9c5e12855be1ac321606\" id=\"photoshop2\" style=\"letter-spacing:0px\">Photoshop<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To fill in the background, the Brush tool(B) can be used. The Dodge and Burn Tools (O) darken and brighten the image or a filter with a mask can do the trick.
