Survey
To kick off our User Persona research, my team created a survey that we would distribute to Design students. We gained permission from the design professors to take 10 minutes away from their classes to explain the survey, why it’s important, and for them to fill it out.
I created an online copy of the survey in Google Forms for design professors to distribute to their online classes.
We ended up with only the results from the in-person students which were manually added to the Google Form so the data would be organized inside of a Google Sheet.
Individual Work
A teammate had created 4 user personas and allowed the group permission to build upon them.
I added to the Time Constrained Student, which is a student who had very little time for any more activities therefore needed information that was straight to the point.
Below I went more in depth with this user persona, adding scenarios and more context to this character:
Contributions To Group Work
Two of the user scenarios were included in our group work document. In addition, I created a third user scenario which was used for the User Persona: Undecided Student
Maria, a 30-year-old student, has several projects she wants to showcase, but she may feel
indifferent about them.
- Initial Search: Maria googles “ways to showcase projects”.
- Website Exploration: The top search item is the Student Showcase page of the MCC Design Department website
- Information Gathering: On the webpage, Maria browses the student work. She filters the projects based on classes she’s taken before.
- Contact Information: Maria does not find a “How to Display Your Work” heading so she navigates to the about page and sends an email to the department about what steps to take to display her work on the website.
- Follow-Up: Maria received an email telling her the steps to have her work displayed. She feels satisfied.
In addition, I created a chart that was used on our final document which depicted all four user personas in a minimalistic and visual way.

In addition, I also created an image where I explained why I chose to place each persona where I did.

They were later given a different color scheme by a team member to fit our team branding.
